JIF’s Surplus Announcement -May 4, 2020 

The SPELL JIF is proud to announce that its affiliated JIFs consisting of ACCASBO, BCIP and GCSSD are collectively returning $1,675,000 to their 84 member school districts in central and southern New Jersey this summer. This is in addition to the $25,085,208 already distributed as surplus over more than thirty years. The member owner school districts are proud of their record of saving money on insurance for decades and especially proud during these challenging times to once again provide real financial relief. GCSSD 2019 State of the JIF Dinner

For the 22nd year in a row, the Gloucester, Cumberland, Salem School Districts Joint Insurance Fund (GCSSD JIF) celebrated Member School District successes at their Annual State of the Joint Insurance Fund Dinner. In all, 15 member school districts were recognized and received awards totaling $66,500.

• Joe Nichols, Facilities Manager of Elk Township School District received the Safety Star of the Year for reaching above and beyond the call of duty. He has direct involvement in the security initiative at the school which includes placing cameras in the building and simplifying lock down procedures in times of crisis. He personally constructed special covers for classroom door windows to better protect students during a lock down. His constant focus is the safety of the children and staff and he has spearheaded many initiatives toward that goal.

• Upper Deerfield Township School District was recognized as Safety District of the Year for their ongoing contribution to safety efforts, earning an additional $2,500 reward.

BCIP Celebrates 35 Years at the 2019 State of the JIF Dinner

For the 23rd year in a row, the Burlington County Insurance Pool Joint Insurance Fund (BCIP JIF) celebrated Member School District successes at their Annual State of the Joint Insurance Fund Dinner.  In all, 35 member school districts were recognized and received awards totaling $128,000.

•  Medford Lakes School District, Northern Burlington County Regional School District, and Riverside Township Board of Education were recognized as Safety Districts of the Year for their ongoing contribution to safety efforts, each earning an additional $2,500 reward.

•  Michael I. Lanzoni from the Custodial/Maintenance Department of Mercer County Special Services School District won the Safety Star of the Year Award for his commitment to providing a safe learning environment, and for going above and beyond to ensure the entire District is safe.

ACCASBO 2019 State of the JIF Dinner

For the 22nd year in a row, the Atlantic & Cape May Counties Association of School Business Officials Joint Insurance Fund (ACCASBO JIF) celebrated member school district successes at their Annual State of the Joint Insurance Fund Dinner. In all, nineteen (19) member school districts were recognized and received awards totaling $74,250.

•  Michael Corrado, School Resource and Attendance Officer of Hamilton Township School District received the Safety Star of the Year for his ongoing contribution to safety efforts, including placing himself between a door and an out of control adult who was verbally abusing the staff.

•  Egg Harbor City School District and Egg Harbor Township School District were each recognized as Safety District of the Year for reaching above and beyond the call of duty, earning an additional $2,500 reward.

Mercury in Gym Floors

Gym Floors: The Mercury Problem

Concerns about mercury contamination from rubber gym flooring grew in the last year for many NJ school districts.  The SPELL JIF welcomed Josh Cupriks, CIH, of the WCD Group to review potential hazards.  View the video on Mercury in Gym Floors Here  from the May 15, 2019 ACCASBO JIF meeting.
